Well, I havn't traveled to too many places,  Albany happens to be the farthest I've been from Syracuse.  That was for an end of year class field trip, and it turned out to be a great time.  I couldn't believe how long it took to take a bus there, although the students were able to watch "Homeward Bound" to keep us entertained lol.  One there, the class's went to museum's, visited monuments, and had lunch in a plaza.  We all went to the state capital building as well, whiuch was very interesting,  We even got to visit the capital chamber, where state assembly men and women meet in and legislate.  There was also a trip to a theater to see the play "Treasure Island", which all the forth graders enjoyed very much.  Overall, it was a great trip, one that was memorable on so many levels.

Recently, however, the only trips I've gone on were to the New York State fair, three of them tottal this year.  The first of these trips was with Bella, her mother, and younger borther..  It was thr first day of the Fair, and we explored all around the fairgrounds.  Bella and I bought baked potato's, which turned out to be alot better than I had expected; as well as fried dough rolls, which were alot sugary then expected lol.  At the State fair, there is an almost endless amount of things to look at, and buildings to walk through.  There was the Colessium, featuring a horse drawn carriage display, which gripped the audience in attendance.   Then there was the Poultry Building, where there were rabbvits, ducks, geese, and roosters, all in cages.  They even had some rabbits out of their cages, which they were letting people pet.  Later, there was a trip through the indian village, which was interesting in itself.   We also visited through many vendors, as well as the center of Progress building, which usually has alot of things to check out.  Overall, this trip was a very good time.

BTW- the second trip is told in detail under "Spooky Nights", while with the third one, your going to have to use your imaginations    lol.  Actually, I think another wrte up is in store.

you forgot to mention the prizes for the best flower arrangement and how could you forget the quilts? Plus, nothing beats a million sweaty rednecks brushing up against you as you try to walk through the crowds.

Actually, I like to go for the 25 cent chocolate milk, the peanut butter fudge, strawberry shortcake, elephant ears, funnel cakes, rides, free stuff, I   NY stickers, samples, the butter sculpture, that guy who carves with a chainsaw, the Dinosaur BBQ stand, ice cream of the future, getting a ring cleaned for free, Potter hunting, seeing the newscasters LIVE!!! (especially Rod Wood, guy's got a great name lol) but above all else, that's right...

THE WINE COURT!!

no no, wait...

RICK SPRINGFIELD!!

Wow, the fair really does suck.

lol, how could I ever forget Yolanda Vega.  At the Chevrolet Court stands, where all the free music acts play, they had the lottery take place.  She tried her hardest to coach the crowd into cheering, with little results.  Didn't get to see the numbers being drawn, not that it would have mattered lol.

BTW- What's with those effing chickens anyways?  Tongue

OK.  So Thursday night, me my roomate and like, 5 other people i dont know went to Canada, pretty much just for the hell of it.  Drank four Corona's at $5 a peice(not including the tip...)  played pool REALLY lousy....oh yeah, forgot to add that we went to Boston Pizza.  Let me add that this is a sports bar, and that every guy in the place was to interested in the Patriots/Colts game to pay any attention to us girls :X but anyways, they decided we would WALK over the friggin border.  are you frigging stupid?  me and the roomie were NOT big fans of this idea, but what the hell, we went anyways.  wasnt a very eventful trip, but me and the roomie had fun, stayed away from the other people, but had fun.  SOMEONE POST TO THIS FORUM :applaus:

Is someone making fun of quilts at the fair lol.  We visited the Spokane county fair on Friday night and looked at quilts, cookies and scrap books.  It does help that your family had stuff entered in the fair.  Quilt red ribbon, scrapbook blue ribbon,  Calvin peppermint cinnamon cookies white ribbon( my oldest son original creation, with way too much peppermint according to the judge, a better description of the cookie would have been Calvin's curriously strong peppermint cookie, Oh Calvin is after Calvin and Hobbes) Daughter red ribbon for her chocolate chip cookies, she forgot to put in the vanilla according to the judge, and I think that is true.

Overall a wonderful fun day at the fair.  Ate too much of the elephant ears though.

Speaking of walking over the Canadian border...

My husband grew up in northern Maine, about 1/2 hour from the Canadian border. Really rural area, think woodsmen, potato fields, moose. He's always telling me that there are dirt roads that cross the border that aren't patrolled, anyone can cross if they know where it is.

A couple years ago we were up there on vacation, visiting his mom, and we decided to try it out. We had her show us on a map where the nearest un-manned crossing was. We went up into Canada through an official checkpoint like normal, then we drove around for a couple hours and on the way back, we found the little dirt road his mom had shown us. It actually ran through the middle of a golf course. One half of the golf course is in Canada, the other half in the US. So, we're driving on this road and I'm thinking, any minute now, someone is going to stop us. Eventually, we came upon a trailer with some kind of official-looking signs on it and I thought, here it is, they'll stop us now.

So, we slowed down, and this lady in some kind of ranger uniform stuck her head out the door. She smiled and waved at us, and we smiled and waved back and kept right on driving. She never gave us a second look.

This was soon after 9/11, so needless to say, we were a bit disconcerted by the whole thing, but it was really fun!

Ok, I have neglected my own vacation experiences long enough.

I have been to Disney World (in Florida) 19 times. Every time it is great!! I LOVE disney and it is def my fav place to go. My parents go so much they have no idea how many times they have been there, but it is more than 40. When you live in Upstate NY, that is a profound number of times to go to Disney World. I love the Magic Kingdom. I never get tired of it. I could go on Space mountain and Thunder Mountain a million times! Not to forget Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mtn, the Haunted Mansion, etc. What a great place! Only last time Lauren made me go on the ferris wheel thingy and I REALLY needed to get off! She loved it, I was having a major anxiety attack. I'm afraid of heights.  yikes:

EPCOT is another story, but I still go at least once and tour the countries, especially the English Pub.  :hicks: Last time I went to Disney was in 2000 and I took my daughter for the first time. She sat in the pub with Heather and I and had countless shirley temples and other various drinks they made for her. They even took two criss-crossed drink swords and made a mickey mouse head with cheeries to put in her drinks. It is the little touches like this that makes Disney stand apart. They didn't even care that we had a 7 yr old in the pub. That was fine with them. In fact, they catered to Lauren more than us. We then took turns posing with the signature London red phone booth outside and got some great pics. Then we went on the Viking ride after buying the world's worst mango daiquiris.

Another fav place in Disney is Capt. Jack's Oyster Bar in what is now called "Downtown Disney." This is actually a seafood restaurant, but My mom loves it for the strawberry margaritas. Finally, I was old enough to have one (I hadn't been to Disney in 10 years) so I got one, so did my mom & dad, so they made Lauren a virgin one so she didn't feel left out! Like I said, the little touches. We didn't order it, and they didn't charge us for it. She was thrilled. We even took her pic with her margarita lol.

There were 2 new parks when we went in 2000 and MGM studios was really lame. However, it does house the greatest ride ever!!! The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. That was the coolest thing I have ever been on and Lauren loved it so much we must have went on it a million times. Being suddenly dropped 13 stories in the dark is simply too much fun. Add to that the spooky Twilight Zone story that goes along with it and the whole elevator thing and one word: AWESOME!!!

The animal kingdom was VERY cool, but it was over-crowded and also over 100 degrees. Once I looked at Lauren and her face was all red. So were the whites of her eyes. I realized she was WAY too hot, sat her in the shade, and got her an icee. Then I took her out of there and we went swimming.

During this trip I had one of the strongest instant attractions I've ever had, and it was BAD! Lauren and I went swimming one night around midnight. There was no one else there, then these 2 guys show up. One was a common nobody, but the other one was so incredibly dead sexy. He had a thin frame, muscular with fab abs and not an ounce of fat on him. He was naked except for a pair of shorts. He had his nipples pierced. (which I have always found very sexy) I'm really glad Lauren was with me, keeping me from talking to him. Why? Because he also had a hickey on his neck and a black eye. Still to this day I can't figure out why I was so attracted to him.

Anyway, we hope to return to Disney next spring. Lauren really wants to go and I hope I can take her. She deserves it after all, and want her to have the kind of experiences I had as a kid.

Last spring I took her on a Caribbean cruise. The first for both of us. It was great, especially the food and visiting the islands, but our time at sea was beyond boring. It was like being imprisoned on the Ritz. We both wanted to get the hell off the ship. I don;t think we'll be going again anytime soon.

Old San Juan, Puerto Rico was a dump. Every window and balcony was barred. The place was dirty. It had some really beautiful hotels and the old Spanish fort was cool, but no thank you. We won't be going back there.

St. Maarten was the BEST!!! Docking in St Maarten We rented a jeep and a bunch of scooters and had one hell of a time. in the back of the jeep We drank like fish, drove all over the island, went to a lovely beach,  visited thier bar and talked to the ppl who worked there, then we went to a nudist colony, but there was no one there. We found another bar on the bay (OMG those shorts are horrible) and stayed there far too long imo, especially since Lauren was with us, but she had a great time. A couple ppl got tattoos, which we thought was nuts, since they don;t have the same laws of cleanliness there, but niether of them died from it lol. Heather and I stood up in the back of the topless jeep most of the time, drinking. We passed a shack with a monkey hanging around outside, which was cool as hell, and really just enjoyed ourselves. We almost missed the ship and had to run like hell down the dock.

St Thomas was alright, but I wished we could have seen more of the island. My oldest sister, Mindy, Heather's maid of honor, Lauren, and I took an excursion to St John, where we went snorkling in what is considered by the travel channel to be the 3rd most beautiful beach in the world, Trunk Bay. I will upload a pic I took from the tram type thing we took to the beach. Trunk Bay, St John It looks like a postcard. (I labled my pics in MS Paint) It certainly was beautiful, but when we got back therre was no time to do anything else. We visited some of the shops next to the dock, then got back on the ship.

Nassau, Bahamas was too hot to enjoy. Lauren asked repeatedly to go back to the ship. Instead, I took her in the Pirate museum and we did a lot of shopping inside. The braid ladies were EVERYWHERE, yet Lauren told me I was polite to every one of them. I told her being rude does no good at all. All it does is make you look like a jerk lol. Anyway, they were annoying. After touring the straw market and wishing we had gone to Atlantis, we got back on the ship. At this point, Lauren confessed that she wanted to get her hair braided LOL!!

Anyway, the trip was great, even if it was just for the food.

I will have to get into my many other trips some other time. I can't type anymore!!

that version of which story? A million things happened on both trips. Both Stories could change every time I tell it. I didn't even get into the casino adventures on the ship, Heather Frances accidently flashing the bartender, the rude Norwigians, Owen fron St. Vincent, doing the macarena while so drunk I could hardly stand, the wedding, the wedding party riding the elevator with champagne in hands, cheering as we stopped at every floor, or any of the other thousands of things we did. Same goes for Disney. I had to just pick a few highlights. Why did I tell you about?

Well, Bella and I are all set for our day trip to NYC. We have enough snacks for the entire bus and I'm not kidding. I haven't been to NYC since I was 16 and while I was there I didn't see much. (however, I did go to the top of the World Trade Center) Bella got her mom's digicam so you should all be seeing our pics right away! We have so far agreed to go to Rockafeller Center, the Metroplitan Museum of Art, Times Square, Canal Street (and probably Chinatown since it's right there) and we hope to go to Central Park. We also decided that we simply MUST have our pic taken with the Statue of Liberty in the background  Cheesy

We will be visiting Ground Zero. She went there when the rubble was still being cleared, so it sould be sobering, and interesting to see what has changed since then.

See you on Sunday!

Well, since Bella and I didn't really see much on our trip except Times Sq and Rockafeller center, I went back yesterday with my sister-in-law, Karen. We had a blast!

First, we took the subway from midtown (34th & Broadway: Penn Station) to Canal St in Chinatown, which is at the bottom of the island that is Manhattan. We got on going the wrong way, went to the very top of the island, and had to ride all the way back down to the bottom. An hour and a half later, we had toured every A train subway station in Manhattan. Chinatown was great!! They were selling stuff on the streets, in tiny stores all packed in next to each other, and in back rooms, for many blocks. I got my sister a really great "Chanel" purse for $25 that actually looks real. You'd have to know purses very well to know it was fake. I got myself a Chanel bracelet for $10 that I couldn't pass up. I tried to get Lauren some fake Tiffany sterling silver jewelry, but they didn;t have anything big enough.

Next we went to Little Italy and had dinner in a real Italian restaurant. We got a bottle on Pinot Gregio and had some really fantastic food which was actually served by real Italians, not high school kids like at the Olive Garden here. We then went to an Italian bakery where I was ignored for a very long time. They waited on the guy ahead of me, then waited on at least 8 people in line behind me. I got really mad, but still managed to get a couple of canoles to go before losing my patience.

Next we went to Columbus Circle, saw the Trump Hotel, then rode a horse drawn carriage through Central Park. We walked around 5th avenue, went to Rockafeller Center, and then went to Macy's (the largest department store in the world) and were too worn out to shop. We had a hard time finding our bus, but finally managed it after buying giant pretzels and sodas from a street vender. We really had a great time and I wish we'd had more time and energy. Next time we are getting a hotel room for the night so we can do and see more.
